Each August, Camp Marafiki Pamoja, our two-week camp welcomes about 100 children for days filled with creativity, friendship, and fun. Camp offers a safe space for learning and laughter and empowers young people to be contributing members of their local and global communities. Campers enjoy nutritious meals, receive basic hygiene supplies, and engage in educational activities that foster joy and confidence.
Camp Marafiki Pamoja was devised and conceptualized by Amanda Snyder and Janet Kamiri, who were placed in volunteer service at Bright Star Academy in Ngando, Nairobi from June – August, 2015.
Amanda and Janet were so moved by the dedication of Mr. Francis Ongeri, Principal of Bright Star, that they wanted to continue to be involved with the school. In 2016, Francis invited Amanda and Janet to return to Kenya to run the inaugural summer camp for the students of Bright Star during their August school break. Since then camp has continued to grow.
Now, Camp Marafiki Pamoja is facilitated primarily by volunteers from the local community, with many former campers returning as volunteers each year.
